Text Box: Antreville Awarded AFG Grant:
Antreville Fire Department has been awarded funding through the Department of Homeland Security for the purchase of a new Wildland Firefighting/Quick Response Vehicle.  The award totals $148,000 for this purchase.
The vehicle is currently out for bids and a vender has not yet been selected. The fire unit is expected to comply with the minimum specs: 300 gallons of water capacity, on board Compressed Air Foam System (this is for fighting vehicle fires, gas fires, wildland fires, and other flammable liquids), wildland fire fighting equipment including axes and other tools to clear brush and contain grass/brush fires.  The truck will also have equipment to deal with emergencies during bad weather conditions such as Ice storms, wind storms, floods, and emergencies that occur off road.
Other items this award will fund will include air packs and equipment that are necessary to complete the emergency vehicle such as emergency lighting, radios, sirens, and other chassis modification for the fire apparatus.
The grant purchases and vehicle acquisition must be complete by January 2008.
This will be a great asset to our fire service and could have been effectively used on 60% of our emergency calls in 2007.
With this grant award this has brought the total Department of Homeland Security awards to Antreville and McGill Fire Departments to just over $408,000.

 Text Box: Fire Prevention Week:

This past year at Diamond Hill Elementary School we started our day with a school fire drill.  The school fire alarm was set off and 911 dispatchers were alerted soon after.  Station 3, Antreville and McGill fire departments along with Station 4, Lowndesville fire departments were notified and we responded as if a true unknown fire alarm emergency.
This exercise was a great success and valuable training tool.  It allowed the fire departments to learn how to deal with a mass evacuation of 390 plus individuals of all ages.  We were able to learn how to position our equipment at the school and work with the faculty to make sure everyone is safely evacuated and accounted for.
The drill was a great success.  The rest of the day was spent talking to each class about fire prevention safety, allowing them to look at the fire equipment and going through the Abbeville County Fire Safe House and live fire demonstration.
See you all this fall.

Text Box: To Our Fallen Brother:

Fire Fighter 312, Bobby Cannon, our Brother and Friend passed away June 7, 2007.  Bobby was a 29 year member of our department and served as Trustee and Treasurer for the majority of his career stepping down from the trustee position just 2 days prior to his passing. For those of you, who know Bobby; know that he is a man of his word, a man of service to his department, his community, his church, and his family. There is no way of knowing how many 1000’s of people he has come in contact with through a screen window just big enough to pass a few quarts of hash. His physical presence will be dearly missed in our lives, but through the wonderful memories he has blessed us with he will live forever in our minds and hearts, and will NEVER be forgotten.

Bobby’s last call was made at Little Mountain Presbyterian Church on Sunday June 9, 2007 with a full Fire Fighter’s Service.

Our lives have been made better, because Bobby shared his life with us.

Text Box: Antreville Goes Online: by TJ Medlock

This past year Antreville FD takes another step into the future.  We decided that we wanted a space on the World Wide Web and
www.antrevillefd.com started.  On this site you can find links to many different fire related subjects, learn how to become a member, see pictures of trainings, fire apparatus, or incident scenes. Also it gave everyone at Antreville their own email address for communications.  The site even displays a map to show from what parts of the world we have had visitors to our site and guest book where everyone can sign in.

Stop by our site and check it out and don’t forget to sign our guest book and check out the latest news.

Antreville purchased a good used service vehicle.   This vehicle is designed to transport additional equipment needed on some fire scenes and other emergency scenes.  This equipment includes Cascade systems used to refill air pack cylinders as well as other useful equipment.  This purchase is also in an on going effort to improve our ISO rating.

Text Box: Remember to check all Fire Extinguishers to make sure they are fully charged.  Make sure your Smoke detectors have fresh batteries installed.  The key to Good Fire Prevention is Good Safety Practices.
